Your Opion Matters

In late May of this year, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced their intention to expand private sector gaming in Ontario by issuing a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input from potential providers as it expands regulated private-sector gaming in Ontario.

The Town of Wasaga Beach, Town of Collingwood, Clearview Township and the Township of Springwater have been identified by the OLG as a potential location for a single gaming facility with 300 slot machines.  This area is called Zone C7. The OLG has indicated that each identified zone will only support one gaming facility and will ensure any new gaming facilities are not in close proximity to an existing gaming operation.

A Zone C7 Public Information meeting was held Tuesday, October 16th at the RecPlex located at 1724 Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach at 7:00 p.m.  OLG officials provided information and answered questions on the proposed gaming facility opportunity for Zone C7 to Members of Council and the public.

In addition to the public information meeting held in Wasaga Beach, the Town of Collingwood would also like to seek public interest in locating a gaming facility within the boundaries of the Town of Collingwood.  Wasaga Beach has confirmed their interest with the OLG in July 2012.

There are many economic and social opportunities and challenges to consider before accepting a gaming facility within a municipality and/or region.

Collingwood will be hosting an Open House at 4:00pm and Public Meeting at 5:00pm on Monday, October 29th, 2012, Council Chambers, Town Hall, 97 Hurontario Street, Collingwood, to obtain input from our community, residents, businesses, agencies and organizations.  Additional details to be confirmed.  If you are unable to attend, please submit your comments in writing to:

Timeline

For a gaming facility to be considered by OLG in Collingwood (or any of the communities being considered), Town Council must resolve to indicate support for a facility by mid-November 2012.  Therefor the Town is undertanking a variety of methods for gathering community input as soon as possible.  Be sure to check the local paper and the town website for further information if you are interested in this issue.

Note: OLG will not locate a gaming facility in a community whose Council does not pass a supportive resolution.
